About me
A Registered Nutritionist (under the Kenya Nutritionist and Dietetics Institute in Kenya), a nutrition status assessor, nutrition advocate, a lifestyle instructor, a senior care worker and a humanitarian worker. I have experience in field work and enjoy doing it, enjoys working in the hospital too and have experience handling nutrition clinics and rehabs for both children and adults. I love initiatives and have come up with useful initiatives to help in nutritional well being of our communities and people. I am a well organized individual used to working under pressure and communicates well both orally and written and enjoys working with a wide range of people. I am self motivated with an outgoing personality and with the determination to succeed. I take great pride in seeing a task through from start to finish.

Key responsibilities  Nutrition activities: Carrying out screening and health talks to different schools, to the community and companies. Nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, monitoring and evaluation, developing nutrition care plans, nutrition counseling, coordinating recipe development and standardization of new menus for different vulnerable groups in the hospital, nutrition supplementation where necessary and also involved as a champion for the weight management program in the hospital that is mainly a weekend clinic.  Elderly care: I have passionately worked for the older people who came to the hospital for long stays and the sick ones that came for medical attention. I have helped them take their drugs, counseled and given them company while helping them feed. My services attracted the relative’s attention that they would call me for locums in their homes to take care of their aging parents. This is one service that gave me satisfaction.  Marketing: I have been involved in identifying potential sponsors and schools, writing to them and making follow up towards the success of the annual cancer walks. It also involves proper planning in terms of looking for grounds, permits and licenses for the whole event, developing templates for reporting, and a work tool that is update daily by the team. I am also involved in search for new clients by signing up contracts with target companies.  Advocacy and communication: Supporting documentation and sharing of best practices through various media. Participating and supporting the GoK in key health and nutrition global events such as Malezi Bora campaigns, World Breastfeeding Week, Global Hand Washing Day and Polio campaigns.  Mentoring: Being the hospitals\' nutritionist, I have managed mentoring the interns that are attached to my department and those rotating in my department. I have also carried out CNE\'S to let colleagues aware more of what my department entails and cases we have been able to solve.  Reporting: Since I joined the organization, I have improved timely and accurate reporting of the hospital data to the sub-county hence improving the DHIS data produced by the M&E team.  Planning and organizing for the grand medical camps that are funded by Plan International. Key responsibilities  Emergency preparedness and response: Operationalization of the strategic objective 4 of the Kenya Nutrition Action Plan. Development of county specific nutrition emergency preparedness and response plans and supporting nutrition assessments during emergencies.  Advocacy and communication: Supporting documentation and sharing of best practices through various media. Participating and supporting the GoK in key health and nutrition global events such as Malezi Bora campaigns, World Breastfeeding Week, Global Hand Washing Day and Polio campaigns.  Reporting: Reviewed, consolidated and submitted monthly and quarterly regional reports to the Regional Programs Coordinator (RPC).  Coordination: Planning and attending stakeholders meetings and county nutrition technical forums (CNTF). Maintaining networks with various nutrition partners in the county to plan for Nutrition activities, providing updates and sharing information. Participates in the development of the County Health Profile (CHP) for Machakos County and the county nutrition action plans (CNAP).  Capacity building of the CHVs in implementing different nutrition activities in the program.  Conducting Nutrition Education/health talk sessions to school going children within Machakos and Makueni counties under the project: Nutrition Early Action and Scalable Response for Emergency in Kenya.  Report writing of nutrition activities carried out in the program.  Plan and conduct mass screening in Kibwezi in relation to the project Integrated Food Security and Livelihood (IFSL) and referral of severe and moderate malnourished client to the nearest clinics and also conduct (SFP) Supplementary Feeding Program for the same clients.  In the IFSL project we conduct MIYCN care in the project area by screening mothers and children, supplementing them, counseling and monitoring growth and improvements for the malnourished clients.  Participated in data collection and analysis of the social protection schemes in Masongaleni in Kibwezi.  Participated in review of the county fiscal strategy plan for nutrition strengthening to be used in budgeting for the financial year 2016/2017.

Key responsibilities  Nutrition assessment is done to identify patients who need nutrition care and close monitoring.  Counseling patient, caregiver, relatives and spouses on nutrition and dietary requirement according to their diagnostic condition and nutritional status.  Conducting food spot check when the food arrives in the wards before it’s served to ensure the quantity and quality of food is appropriate for consumption and filling of daily diet requisition sheet and milk list so as to order enough food and specific to every patient condition e.g. patient with renal diseases get renal diet  Writing the regime of patients on NG feeding and stick on the bed site and keep a copy in the files ,this is done to guide the care giver on time to feed, amount and type of feed that the patient will be given.  Nutritional talk at clinic 16 to pregnant mothers and spouses on various topics such as; Attachment and positioning of the baby during breastfeeding, weight gain, and healthy feeding.  Weighing of children and plotting on the weight charts to monitor their growth and determine the progress of nutrition care given.  Writing report of daily activities and revenue collected from the wards for accountability and reference of the services offered and supplements issued to the patients.
